On July 29, 2023, at ITPO, Pragati Maidan, New Delhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will open the Akhil Bharatiya Shiksha Samagam, which coincides with the third anniversary of the National Education Policy 2020.

The Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship are in charge of organising the two-day event. On this occasion, the prime minister will announce a number of measures.

In advance of the third anniversary of the NEP, which will be observed later this weekend, the leaders of higher education institutions and representatives of skill development institutions recounted the accomplishments and high points of the journey.

The introduction of Fractal Academics, or courses with credits ranging from 0.5 to 3, which allows students to have breadth and depth in the disciplines of their interest, was pioneered by IIT Hyderabad, according to Prof. BS Murthy, the institute’s director. He claimed that 10% of the curriculum for all UG programmes is made up of liberal arts, and that students can also receive credit from institutions other than the institute. According to Prof. Murthy, the IIT-H is encouraging student innovations through BUILD (Bold & Unique Ideas Leading Development) projects and giving students a semester vacation with 6 credits to explore such innovations in order to promote entrepreneurship that will lead to Atmanirbhar Bharat.

The Academic Bank of Credits programme has started, according to Vice Chancellor Prof. B. Jagdeeshwar Rao, who was speaking about the implementation of NEP at the University of Hyderabad. He added that a multiple entry and exit facility is being used for all 19 integrated masters curricula. According to Prof. Rao, guidelines for concurrently studying two academic programmes have been adopted, and the university is now providing 14 Diploma courses through its Centre for Distance and Virtual Learning. The University of Hyderabad has established new courses like Introduction to Gender Studies, Value Based Education, NGOs and Nation Building, among others, in keeping with the multidisciplinary approach outlined in NEP, he shared.

According to Vidyanad, the Joint Director of the Regional Directorate of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship in Telangana State, the institute is working to give students both academic and practical skills as the NEP emphasises the integration of vocational education into general education. Vidyanand stated that as part of the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY 2022-23), institutions of national repute such as schools, higher education institutions, colleges, and universities are being on-boarded as “Skill Hubs,” utilising their existing infrastructure and domain experience to provide quality training under PMKVY. He revealed that there are currently close to 1000 Skill Hubs with 1 lakh candidates enrolled in them.

Approximately 2000+ institutions have been given targets, including renowned national institutions like IITs, IIITs, NITs, and state universities. Training for the jobs of Assistant Mine Surveyor, Green House Operator, Self Employed Tailor, and Social Media Associate has already begun at ISM Dhanbad and IIT Guwahati.

On July 29, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will officially launch Akhil Bhartiya Shiksha Samagam 2023. The third anniversary of the National Education Policy, or NEP 2020, falls on the same day as the “Samagam.” The inaugural session will be broadcast live starting at 10 am on Doordarshan, popular TV networks, YouTube, etc.
